The HBA 9500-8i is a non-RAID host bus adapter that passes drives straight through to the operating system, which makes it a natural fit for ZFS, Ceph, vSAN-style and other software-defined storage stacks. It is built on the SAS3808 I/O controller with a PCIe 4.0 x8 host link.
